Hidden Heroes Portrait Event at Waterloo Train Station
What a brilliant day we had as part of the Hidden Heroes project at Waterloo! A swat team of portrait artists landed on the concourse armed with paintbrushes, paint and a whole day ahead of us to celebrate some of the unsung heroes who work at Network Rail. Alongside superstar artists Wendy Barratt and Duncan Shoosmith, I was there to work with members of the public to create a crowd-sourced set of portraits – it was amazing how many lovely commuters, tourists, travellers and daytrippers stopped for a few minutes to make their mark on these paintings – and look at the outcome! Incredible!
This is the finished painting of brilliant Anita, who works as a Mobile Operations Manager on the tracks, and in her spare time is an expert salsa dancer! What a star!
Here is the painting we all worked on of wonderful Manny, Community Safety Manager and all round smiley lovely legend!
It was an absolute highlight being mic’d up and booming around the station to encourage people to get involved – really bringing painting into everyday spaces. Yes!!
A massive thank you to the team at Network Rail and Storycatchers for bringing this amazing project to life, and asking us to all be involved! We made quite the impact for one day – I reckon let’s get more painting in train stations!!!
